Finding A Match

A few evenings ago my two sons, my father and I sat down to play a game of match. I am sure many of you have played this game before. Let me tell you, four guys playing this game it can be intense, competitive and exciting. My four year old son, Drake, was so excited every time he found a match! He would scream, his face would be red and you could see the veins popping out of his neck and his hands would just create this crazy excited motion. This game is all about flipping two cards trying to match them. It takes memorization to remember where each match is located. We had so much fun just looking for that one match!

Luke 19:10 says “For the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost.” Jesus came to this earth looking for you. He came to live a life of example, love and sacrifice. God has sent Jesus on a primary mission to save the lost. In this chapter Jesus spent time with a man by the name of Zacchaeus. Every time I hear the story of Zacchaeus I am reminded of the children’s song that I grew up singing that Zacchaeus was a wee little man☺. I would like to encourage you to read about the story of Zacchaeus.

What does this have to do with finding a match and excitement? First, Jesus found Zacchaeus. He knew his name and said “come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” This is proof that Jesus wanted to spend his time with those that did not know him and those who wanted to know more about him. Secondly, Zacchaeus was excited and filled with joy! He came right down from the tree and knew that Jesus was Lord.

During this time of year we focus on the coming of our Lord Jesus who was born of a virgin. Laying in a manger swaddled so tight. God made a covenant with Abraham many years before the birth of Jesus that he would bless many people. Jesus came from the family line of Abraham. God knew that he would need to send His son one day to save the lost. How have you been blessed by Jesus? Does that bring you joy?

When I watch my son’s play this match game and become so excited, I see the joy in their spirit, I see Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus was so joyful when he received Jesus this day. When we choose to receive Jesus, HE is where we find Joy. Sam mentioned in his sermon last Sunday “joy is found when living a life that pleases God.”

Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee!
